EFF is grateful to Craig Newmark Philanthropies for its continuing support through a newly announced $100,000 grant to support our work in cybersecurity and trustworthy journalism. Over the coming year, we anticipate shocks and stresses to the digital landscape – not just threats to safety but also to rights of expression and privacy. EFF will be there when people in crisis online and offline need us most, whether through our free security tools, consultations, trainings, or legal representation.

Directed by the Craigslist founder whose name it bears, Craig Newmark Philanthropies has funded cutting-edge cybersecurity research and projects since 2015 at EFF and elsewhere The organization’s support of EFF’s work in these areas enhances our ability to speak truth to power, fight for journalists and others to express themselves freely in the digital world, and develop tools that empower users in the fight against spyware and malicious data collection.

We celebrate the many years of support since Craig Newmark first became an EFF member in 1993. Our 30,000 members and our foundation donors helped us grow to become the leading nonprofit defending digital privacy, free speech, and innovation. This year’s $100,000 award strengthens that legacy and EFF’s ability to safeguard hard-fought victories, while continuing to be the first call for journalists, researchers, creators, and anyone whose digital freedom or online safety is under attack.
