EFF is thrilled to partner with the Roxie Theater for a special screening of the iconic film 1984. Before the movie, we'll share a bit about our work defending privacy and free speech online. You can also find us in the lobby to chat about our latest projects—or introduce us to your friends and family!
We also have a discount for EFF supporters! Use code BIGBROTHER25 at checkout for a $3 off discount on your ticket. A portion of proceeds from this screening supports EFF.
We hope to see some familiar faces—and meet some new ones—at the Roxie!
About the Roxie Theater: The Roxie Theater, a San Francisco landmark in the Mission District, brings people together to meet and connect through distinctive cinematic experiences. Guided by the passionate belief that engaging with a movie doesn’t end with the credits, we invite filmmakers, curators, entertainers and educators to interact with our audiences. We provide inspiration and opportunity for the next generation, and serve as a forum for the independent film community reflecting the spirit of the diverse Bay Area population. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
About 1984: A man loses his identity while living under a repressive regime. In a story based on George Orwell’s classic novel, Winston Smith (John Hurt) is a government employee whose job involves the rewriting of history in a manner that casts his fictional country’s leaders in a charitable light. His trysts with Julia (Suzanna Hamilton) provide his only measure of enjoyment, but lawmakers frown on the relationship — and in this closely monitored society, there is no escape from Big Brother.
